The cold-rolled steel base of our dumbbells feature a premium PVC coating on each dumbbell head and a chrome plated handle. PVC is the choice of residential and commercial gyms alike for their long lasting and odor free features. No, they aren't rubber. We weren't a fan. Our premium PVC dumbbell coating doesn't smell, doesn't leave marks on your floors, doesn't come coated with black oil, and doesn't wear down over time (think about how a tire on a car wears down). It's a slightly harder shell than rubber, which makes it even easier to keep clean.

I love the weight set. Been wanting one for years. No nasty smell to deal with either. I will say though the texture coating on the rack was missed in a couple of places but that is only looks. It does not diminish the functionality of the rack. Alison, the chrome plating on one of the 45 lb dumbbell had pealed up which I found with my bare hand. Ouch! That being said, I love the product.
